CREATING MOTIVATION TO EXERCISE
Motivation is one of those words we often associate with a task that may be of an unenjoyable nature. It’s potentially heightened when we start to think of our physical and mental health. Motivation to lose weight, get started, diet, exercise, sound familiar? Well, I’d like to share with you all a few simple steps that help me stay motivated each day.
Step 1
Enjoy your exercise
This may sound like cliche advice, but trust me ladies, it works. The best form of exercise is one that you enjoy and can foresee yourself sticking to. I personally love weight training. It makes me feel amazing and a task I rarely need to seek motivation for. But if you told me to run around the block, let me just say, there would be many short cuts made. Enjoying your exercise will create positive momentum in your day resulting in increased productivity with the rest of your daily tasks.
Step 2
Consistency
For what ever reason society has painted a picture that motivation requires a continuous 10/10 effort. Completing a workout at a 3/10 effort just isn’t enough, well ladies, I believe it’s part of life. We can’t perform at our best everyday and this is okay. It is also important to create consistency and do our best to make exercise an important part of our week. Creating consistency builds positive reinforcement in your mind adding to your ever growing mindset. Always remember that something is better than nothing.
Step 3
Realistic expectations
Being realistic with yourself is so important. For example, committing to 7 days a week intense exercise whilst trying to juggle children, a house hold and career, will eventually bring most people down. Schedule your exercise on appropriate days at an appropriate level. 2-3 days of exercise combined with a well balanced diet is absolutely more than enough. Ladies trust me, sometimes less is more. If our goal is to maintain motivation whilst enjoying our form of exercise, the work load must be set at a level where it’s still fun and not a chore.
Conclusion
Find what makes you happy and stick to it. Creating a harmonious balance between physical and mental wellbeing should be your ultimate goal. You’re not in competition with anyone else as everyone has different life circumstances and time distribution. Be kind to yourself and keep being you.
Peace out team Tightass
